I just send this patch towards new configure scripts; I converted older configure.in and related files to more standard procedures (even though it is an endless process and what I have done is just the beginning). However, as Lachlan wisely said, a configure change now could risk to compromise 3.2.0b5 release and probably we should wait until that. I should ask (especially OS X users) to kindly test this patch as I did on my Linux (and works). I have just started the configure and portability changes I had thought, especially towards C++ standard library presence checks (there's a very elegant macro in the autoconf archive); if it works, I can start modifying the code whenever a warning is issued for including C++ headers in the 'C' way (.h). Well I hope I am not causing any trouble to you, and that just a few minutes of your precious time could be spent on this. Ciao and thanks -Gabriele
